The man she once loved is now a monster she doesn’t know.

Catrin and Daniel love each other, but Daniel refused to further their relationship for fear of curtailing Catrin’s intellectual and personal freedom, and dooming her to a life of domestic servitude as his wife.  Yet their lives remain entangled.

When Daniel is shot in the face during a family rescue in Algeria, he brutally severs the ties between them and removes himself to a remote village in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Catrin travels to Wales in a last bid to resolve their differences, but the terrifying man she finds there is not the Daniel she once knew…

This book is the ninth book in the Scandalous Scions series, bringing together the members of three great families, to love and play under the gaze of the Victorian era’s moralistic, straight-laced society.

A Sexy Historical Romance
___

Praise for the Scandalous Scions series

If you are familiar with the previous series, I am sure you fell in love with the huge family like I did.

She is a go to author for me when I need a fix of historical romance.

Tracy Cooper-Posey takes us into the staid yet surprisingly bawdy Victorian Era where appearance is everything and secrets are held inside the family.

Thanks once again, Tracy Cooper-Posey, for giving us another great story and for giving me back my love of historical romances.

I love historical romances and this one filled all my likes, from a dashing, wonderful hero, a beautiful strong heroine, a love story to sigh over, side characters that are interesting, and funny, and move the story along.

I don't often give books five stars, but I really enjoyed the mystery that puzzled all of the characters in this story.

A wonderful story set in the Victorian era of such strict social conventions and yet the main characters are shimmering with latent sexual tension. What a fabulous juxtaposition!

"There are great characters throughout the book but especially the romantic leads.
Tortured hero = Check.
Smart, self-educated and thoughtful heroine = Heck yes!
There's hot and sexy chemistry but the novel isn't swamped by sex scenes although I enjoyed their foreplay and hints at a deeper connection <SNICKER>.
These well-liked characters get the ultimate climax (pun intended) they deserve <SIGH> with a delightfully happy ending which gave me warm fuzzy feelings.

This novel has one of those special turning-point moments in the relationship where my breath held with delight (aka a pulse-pause moment!) and where I got the feeling that things were on the improve for the main characters.

It's an exciting story with undercurrents of unsavoury goings-on after there is a murder discovered nearby. Edge-of-your-seat suspense builds for the mysterious aspects of the murder as well as the strong romance thread.
There are hints of hidden layers of the characters past interactions which are revealed slowly throughout the book in parallel with their new relationship.

This is a welcome addition to one of my favourite series EVER with such different storylines in each novel whilst the families central to the whole series is made up of such diverse and interesting characters.
I highly recommend reading in order for a richer experience, as a lot of the family we have already met in preceding novels are involved again and again."

  • This historical romance with its scarred hero and competent heroine had me reading this in one day.
The mystery and frequent views of the past were a little frustrating and made this story more complicated than it needed to be.
I was surprised by the villains identity.

  • This series just keeps getting better and better and in order to really enjoy it, and know who each character is, and how they fit in the story, I urge the reader to get the whole series and read it from, the beginning. This story centers on Catrin and Daniel who cared very deeply about one another until Daniel left and no one heard from him. When he returned he hid away and Catrin went to his home to find out why. Daniel was wounded and it left his face scarred. He is in severe pain and wanders the hills at night to ease the pain. The author does a great job of describing the area he walks in and the reader feels like they are right there with him. There is a mystery, someone or something is killing some local people and Daniel is accused. I was not prepared for the shock of finding out who the killer was, but as usual Tracy wraps up the story to the reader's satisfaction. I really liked these characters because I like strong women in a story and Catrin is very strong, and independent as she is a writer for a men's magazine. I also like strong dashing heroes and Daniel fills that criteria very nicely. It is a swoon worthy love story with a "little" twist thrown in. So if you like those things too then this book is for you, and even if you don't it is a wonderful historical book. I can not wait for the next book in this series to see who Tracy features from the great family. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book.
  • Catrin and Daniel truly loved each other, but fate got in the way, and now he's someone even he doesn't recognize. Anyone who's had a loved one experience a life-changing experience will relate to Catrin's tenacity; and Daniel's struggle. Once I got the hang of this book, I really enjoyed it, but it took having a notepad handy as it's told in turn in the present, and in flashbacks. Sometimes, the changes were hard to keep track of, so it got confusing. One I started keeping track of the changes, especially since everything takes place in about a 3 year span, it was pretty easy. When everything stayed in the present, I was so engrossed in the book on a flight that I sat in the airport to finish it (I only had 15 more pages, so it wasn't bad). I so enjoy this series, and the research Cooper-Posey puts into the society and culture of the day, Her writing is so vivid that you can easily visualize the settings (OK, I admit I had to look up a word or two, but isn't that expansion of knowledge and vocabulary part of what reading is all about?). I received and advance reader copy and this is my honest review.
  • I volunteered to read this as an ARC.
This novel is number 9 in the "Scandalous Scions Series".
Each book in the series features members of the GREAT FAMILY as the main characters in the story. Even though they have been mentioned before in other novels this book can be read as a stand alone.
Tracy also tells you the relationship of each character to one another before you start to read th novel.
This is the story of Catrin and Daniel.
They have known one another for years and have been in love with one another for years.
As this novel unfolds Catrin is going to see Daniel. She has not seen him since he was shot in his face in Algeria.
He does not know she was coming. Upon arrival at his home she hears screaming, items being broken and cursing.
As with all of Tracy's books you do not want to put the book down. Therefor I treat each book as a reward for a completed work week. I then read until I completed the novel.
  • I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it. I enjoyed wading into this story set in a desolate part of Wales. Catrin our herione is as determined and intelligent as you can find, but Daniel she remembers, is no more. She finds an anger filled, cold man. The mystery she unravels is fascinating, but terror stalks the same hills that Daniel walks at night.

Can the riddle of unexplained deaths be solved, before Daniel's life is completely destroyed? The plot is beautiful and full of unexpected twists and turns. It is written in Tracys easy to read writing style and transports the reader through time and space, to experience all the terror, frustration, pain and happiness rolled into this stunning story.

I strongly recommend reading the series in order to better understand the story. I am pleased to report that this story has a happy ending. Well done Tracy on a beautiful, different romance!
